John Luty from the UK says: “I am particularly interested in the small two stroke models .....

I am in the process of restoring both a 1965 registered YF1 (which must be a '64 model as it has the leading link front forks) and an AS1".

I also so own a 1974 YG1 a 1976 FS1E DX and a 1987 FS1. My interest in Yamaha motorcycles started when my eldest brother purchased a 1965 / 66 registered YF1 in about 1970 when I was 10 years old, soon afterwards my second eldest brother purchased a 1965 registered YG1. When I became 16, I (like most 16 year old boys at the time) wanted a "sports moped" as the legislation here in the UK prevented 16 year olds from riding motorbikes so I borrowed the deposit to purchase a FS1E- DX which cost me £256.00! When I turned 17 years old I had no interest in a larger motorcycle as I wanted a car and therefore unlike many I did not trade my FS1E in for a 250, so I still have it and although it has been poorly stored after some 20 years since last being run it started with some fresh petrol and a couple of kicks of the kick-start.You may be aware that the FS1E has a huge following over here in the UK. The first picture is the YF1 that I am in the process of restoring and the second picture is myself on my brothers bike way back in about 1972”.

And John again on his second eldest brother's YG1 a little later. Great to have two older brothers with bikes but it must have felt terrible being to young to take the bikes for a spin down the road!.
