Sonny Angel was the first US rider who ventured to the Isle of Man T.T. races with a Yamaha 250 cc bike.

It was a very daring operation way back in 1960. His machine was simply a "kitted" YDS1, a "YDS1R". His trip was a total disaster. Before going to the IOM Sonny tried to run the bike at the brands hatch circuit, where it seized in a big way. Later, when he competed at the Silverstone circuit, Mike Hailwood lapped him already after 4 laps on a Ducati.. So when he arrived in the Isle of Man in June he had no pistons for the bike as everything was consumed already. He received 2 sets of pistons from Hepolite, which were ment for a MV scooter. They had to be modified of course as the ring locationpegs had to be re-situated.. During practice these pins came out (of course) and the pistons des-integrated.......
